Jon Stewart on Double Standards

I really really need to watch the Daily Show more often.  This video is classic.

Summary:  Talking heads in media are hypocritical shits that are never held accountable for their sleaze.  But at least John helps us laugh at them.

Low Republican Turnout an Understatement

In watching the news last night I saw a ticker on the bottom of the screen regarding the Washington DC primary results.  It showed some very low numbers for the Republican primary and I thought it must be a mistake.  After checking CNN this morning the numbers seem to be accurate.  Are there really that few Republicans in D.C.?

I know that many feel McCain has this already set and as such maybe no reason to even bother, but Huckabe only got 961 votes.  You would think more than 961 people would want to see him win.  After doing a bit of research it seems you must be registered as Republican for the DC primary to participate, which would help explain.  Still...

Voting for Vice President?

I voted today ( I live in NH ) and was surprised to see a column for Vice President on the ballot.  Yes, VP.  On the Democrat ballot were two people (no big names) and the republican ballot has one name (a local state senator).

So what happens to the person who wins the VP primary race?  Nothing

Political Junkmail

This is the season for political visits, calls and junkmail. (I live in NH) This weekend we were phoned  by 3 different candidates.  Well, my wife was.  I don't count for some reason.  We had one door to door visitor (Obama and Edwards volunteers love to visit us apparently).

Today we (my wife) got, and I kid you not... 3 giant glossy junkmails from Hillary.  Not 3 of the same mind you, 3 different mailers today.

how to pick a president

This is a handy way to find out which presidential candidates are most in line with your values.  This is based on their publicly stated positions on many issues.  You simply fill out the form as best you can and find out which candidates match your interests.  This is nice since it removes the whole 'I want to be his friend' vs 'he would be a good president' type decisions that people often make.  The result may even surprise you.

You are on notice!

Inspired by Stephen Colbert I have my own list. He was nice enough to pose for me even! Are you on the list? Should you be?

To make your own visit this site.

Thank You Stephen Colbert

If you haven't seen the video of Steven Colbert Speaking at the White House Correspondents Dinner do so now.  I can't believe he had the guts to say the truth in such a brilliant way, standing right next to Bush.  Grilling everyone in the room.  It makes me proud to be an American.  Why this wasn't national news the next day is beyond me.  Just watch it, then you will understand.

pay off your CC and get flagged by homeland security

An interesting article here about a couple who paid down a large chunk of debt on their credit card.  Apparently all such transactions are monitored by Homeland Security, and it was blocked until homeland security could investigate them and determine if they were evil people or not.

I wonder what little things we all have done to get on the check em out list.  Even briefly.  It would be interesting and probably scary to learn the answer.  How many people are flagged a day?  How many times has that actually helped us catch or prevent a terrorist act?  Could that have helped stop 9/11 or various other acts?  Would it do anything to stop our own home born terrorists (think Oklahoma).
