Micro-Lending with Jackley Flannery of Kiva

A very interesting discussion/event is coming up at our local library.

Tuesday, May 5 at 5:30 PM in the Levenson Room of the Portsmouth Public Library for a discussion about micro-lending and philanthropy leveraging the Internet with Jessica Jackley-Flannery, co-founder of Kiva.

Kiva is the world's first person-to-person micro-lending website, empowering individuals to lend directly to an entrepreneur in the developing world. By combining microfinance with the internet, Kiva is creating a global community of people connected through lending. Kiva will have facilitated loans totaling $100 million by 2010.

The discussion is open to the public and will be moderated by Boston Globe columnist and author Scott Kirsner. 

A micro-lending and microbrew mixer will follow at 7:00 PM at the Portsmouth Brewery. The mixer is sponsored by Catapult, eCoast Angels, NH High Tech Council and Borealis Ventures.
