We all get a lot of spam.  Most of it is filtered by gmail for me (we use google apps for email).  One got through and the irony is really pretty sweet.  Read on and I am sure it will be clear why.  BTW this is at least the second exact same email I have gotten in a week.  I especially like that their mechanism to be removed from the list is a link to an email with no directions as to what to say/do.

I went to their home page, and at the very bottom is a whole lot of white space (lots of BR tags), then a login blurb for some reason, then a counter! Yes a counter.  I haven't seen a counter on a corporate site in a good long time.  BTW it is at 93371 (I reloaded a few times just for old times sake).

Hah, I have played too many online games when I don't even think to type that out. The other day I was reading about a home for sale. In the listing was den,fp,garage. I read it wondering 'how do they have a flight path?'.... too much WOW.

How do you like google apps btw? I've been pondering switching, but I'm hesitating for some reason.

I really like it. My personal domain uses is, as well as our company now. Mail migration is possible through imap, but only if you pay for the $50 a user version. There are other ways, but it is a pain (pop accounts to pop accounts). Honestly I just left outlook on my machine for old email, and imported my contacts (which is free). I tested the imap support, but opted to not keep the paid version (you have 30 day free trial).

One reason someone may want to stay clear is privacy. There is a bit in the news lately about big company's that use it, and now worried about losing control of their data. Patriot act and such. I think this is mostly true for companies that have operations in multiple countries, though I haven't researched it well.

It is really handy to have shared contacts, calendar and documents as well, and the config interface is pretty darn easy. Just set up with temp domain and test, then when ready change your mx record.

The privacy thing is the only thing holding me back... not that I have anything to hide.

I am certainly no expert here, but I think to truely keep the privacy in your control you would need to run your own email server. I don't see how using any isp would be different then google, yahoo or MS in that regard.

I do run my own qmail server. The problem is:
1.) Dealing with spam.
2.) Dealing with spam.
3.) Dealing with hardware that deals with spam.
4.) Have I mentioned dealing with spam?

Spamassassin and the like only go so far. I was looking into moving my mail server away from my hardware and google apps came to mind, but I'm poking it with a stick first and asking around about it.

You could say it's quite enterprising really. On a different tac though I like the Gmail spam folder just because of the Spam recipies it always gives me :) - Fab!
