Spam Email of the Day: Spam about Filitering Spam
We all get a lot of spam. Most of it is filtered by gmail for me (we use google apps for email). One got through and the irony is really pretty sweet. Read on and I am sure it will be clear why. BTW this is at least the second exact same email I have gotten in a week. I especially like that their mechanism to be removed from the list is a link to an email with no directions as to what to say/do.
I went to their home page, and at the very bottom is a whole lot of white space (lots of BR tags), then a login blurb for some reason, then a counter! Yes a counter. I haven't seen a counter on a corporate site in a good long time. BTW it is at 93371 (I reloaded a few times just for old times sake).
Dear Joshua,
I am a vendor with a low-cost hosted Spam Filtering solution which we provide to over 2,000 domains, big and small, for government, education and business clients. I would like to bid for your business when your current solution comes up for renewal. My March Madness promotion features the first six months at no cost to try us out. I am prepared to sharpen my pencil and earn your business.
I would like to present information to the person responsible for making your spam filtering decisions. We can lower your costs more importantly improve your filtering results.
Are you the correct person? If not, would you please direct me to the appropriate decision maker?
Thank you in advance.

One reason someone may want to stay clear is privacy. There is a bit in the news lately about big company's that use it, and now worried about losing control of their data. Patriot act and such. I think this is mostly true for companies that have operations in multiple countries, though I haven't researched it well.
It is really handy to have shared contacts, calendar and documents as well, and the config interface is pretty darn easy. Just set up with temp domain and test, then when ready change your mx record.

4.) Have I mentioned dealing with spam?
Spamassassin and the like only go so far. I was looking into moving my mail server away from my hardware and google apps came to mind, but I'm poking it with a stick first and asking around about it.
