Top 10 Pet Peeves

These are my top 10 pet peeves in no specific order.   A few notes. I have the right to change my mind at any time. I welcome your contributions in comment form. Don’t take them personally, it’s just a blog.

1) The woman in front of me this morning throwing her burning cigarette out the car window while turning right on red without stopping or using a turn signal. You really SHOULD buckle up your young child that is currently standing in the front seat. Perhaps even look into a child seat for him.

2) The commercialization of our post office. What the hell are posters and advertisements for Star Wars doing in our post office? I have seen freaking AOL cd’s in the ‘free take em’ boxes while waiting in line. Why was our post office distributing AOL CD’s? I have no problem with AOL (now anyway), Star Wars, Disney, etc. Just don’t see how the post office should be used as an advertising and general retail sales vehicle. Don’t get me started on schools.

3) Junk mail! Email – Postal Mail It all stinks. We get worked up about the environment (finally) and yet have NO way of opting out of the huge amount of waste coming to our mailbox daily. How many trees, landfills, etc. would be saved if only I could stop Citibank from sending me their WEEKLY letter begging me to use their credit card? OH and I actually did try to get a credit card two years ago. You said no.  Take a hike.

4) Zoning ordinances that are IMPOSSIBLE to comply with. Why make every single small change to my porch go through the zoning board for approval? If I take my existing porch, and shrink it in size, that should automatically be approved. I understand approval for making things larger, but come on... why waste everyone’s time?

5) Commercials on DVD’s. Don’t make me watch commercials before watching the movie that I just bought. Yes, I actually paid for the movie. I didn’t download it. I didn’t steal it. I didn’t even buy it used. Yet I still get punished.

6) Expensive cell phones. I loved my Treo 270. I loved my Treo 300. I loved my Treo 600. I had them replaced many times (Treo has quality control issues apparently). How many hundreds of dollars did I spend? In the end what was really different between my 270 and the 600? My new Samsung u740 isn’t the least expensive, but it isn’t $600 either. How did I ever get suckered into thinking that my cell phone, which will only last a few years, is possibly worth that much money?

7) People who ask for help, don’t listen, and then complain they don’t understand what you just said. Could it be related to the fact I can hear you typing and eating in the background of our phone call? I really try not to sound like I am talking down to you, but you are forcing me to ask after every sentence ‘is that clear?’ so that I can confirm that you were listening. As a general rule if people are telling you something complicated stop writing your email or reading that blog and listen for the 30 seconds it takes to process. Pretty please.

8) Packaging of CD’s and DVD’s. What are you trying to protect? It really should be easier to open this damn CD. And when I do open it, let’s have a CD design that actually says the band name and album! It looks cute to make your CD look like it is an unmarked CD-R to you, but to the rest of us it is a pain in the ass. They Might Be Giants… I am looking in your direction.

9) Bloggers who make $150k a year. What the hell? This is only a pet peeve because I am jealous. Very jealous. Share some link love baby. I may not keep on topic. I may have lame posts. But damn it I want some of that green.

10) President Bush. I know, I know. This is a lame one. But still, how can he not be on EVERYONES top 10 peeve list? How is it possible the Republican Party as a whole let alone the Republican Elite thought he was worthy to be our nation’s leader?  The fact he made it to the primary is shocking, that he won the primary is greatly disturbing. Media on the whole should have been all over this. Instead they thought it would make good news. They were not wrong.  I don’t care what your politics are; he should never have been in the running. The system is screwed up and the people who can fix it are part of the problem.
