where does one draw the line?

I am getting much more traffic to my blog after my recent efforts to do a make over.  That is great, don't get me wrong.  I am also getting a lot of emailed requests to link, promote or review sites or products I have no connection or interest in.

It brings up an interesting part of blogging.  In using mybloglog and other social blogging systems there are so many other blogs out there that are networking entirely to get more traffic. They offer very little other than simple SEO suggestions regurgitated from other sites.

I know it seems a bit hypocritical to say that I wont just promote anything, since I have a review me link on my site, however I WONT just review anything.  It should be something interesting to me at the very least.  My readers should expect I don't sell out.  In fact they should expect that I speak my mind.  That is why they read.  I will not link to you, or make you a favorite because you do so for me.  I will not review your product because you offer me a free copy of your software.  I MAY do a reviewme review of your product or service if it is topical to me.

On the same token, I am finding my blog not very vertical.  In other words, I often blog on a variety of subjects.  I am told this isn't good for a blog.  They should be topical, and focused.  I understand that, however why should I only write about one facet of my interests?

For those that are interested, the most popular of my posts are reviews.  My reviews of my computer, phone, xbox360 games, etc. get so many google search click that if I were to focus on what brings traffic I would focus on that alone. I do enjoy writing reviews.  But only when it is appropriate and interesting to me.

So feel free to ask.  However know that it isn't a done deal.  I am not a hard ass.  But if you ask me to review your latest get rich quick scheme it isn't likely to happen.  Spam stock... well that is already filtered by gmail.
