Gmail Issues
I just started trying Gmail as a replacement for Outlook. I check 4 email accounts every day. I get at least 500 spam emails overnight, and many more during the day.
My first problem was that I already had a google account for adsense, analytics, etc. I didn't have a gmail email though, and I couldn't seem to merge the two together. So now I have TWO google accounts, and logging into one means my custom home page, etc. is now no longer working. Very frustrating.
The cool side: Import contacts = easy. 800+ in seconds. I like the filters, quick search, archive and combining conversations.
The irritating: With Gmail you can have multiple accounts with pop mail. However you only have one signature. You should have different signatures depending on which email account you are using.
It would be great to be able to have a filter for known contacts (all known) and group contacts and filter on those groups.
It would be nice to see my upcoming calendar events on the same screen as my gmail, and not click to open a new window.
The nearly killing it all for me: IF I send out under one of my pop accounts many outlook users see something like "From x.xxx.xxxxx@gmail.com on behalf of Joshua Cyr". Thats right they put in that I am sending from gmail, even though I really and sending through my pop account. There is no good reason for this. I know it is spec, and I know not all email clients will show it, however the end result is that I can't use this for talking to clients. it is unprofessional, and at the least there should be a setting I can turn off or on for this. I can't believe they have let this go on in its current state.
So will I keep it? I don't know. I may make yet another gmail email that looks semi professional. I may move my domain joshuacyr.com over and use that ( I think that would fix the issue for joshuacyr.com at least). Or I may just go back to outlook, slow email, and all the myriad of problems that it had. I am so bummed out right now.
