Some may know about a new trend in blogging. Paid posts. There are services out there that will pay a blogger to post something specific. Most of those services require that the blogger not disclose that it is a paid review, and often the review must be positive.

Naturally I loath these sorts of things. It isn't just in blogger land, but in "news" segments on tv, newspapers and magazines.

I came across a new site that has an interesting spin on it. Basically they pay for reviews, but the blogger gets to pick and choose the reviews to do. In addition they can and in fact are required to disclose that it is a paid review, and finally the review can be whatever. It doesn't have to be positive.

The more popular the blog, the more one gets paid. In this case I opted to try it out and my first paid review is of the service itself. I get paid $20 for the review.

The site itself is pretty basic. Sign up as a blogger or advertiser. You can search through other blogs that belong and see what they are worth. The valuation is based on Technorati rankin, Alexia, and bloglines subscribers. Turns out I am poor in all categories. ;-)

The only confusing part to me is how do I know if someone else wants a review? Do I log on periodically?

The reviewme site is run by the same people that run Text Link Ads. With Text Link Ads you get to sell little text link ads on your site. It is run similarly in that the more popular your site the more you get paid for the link. I have sold one so far. You can control what links show up (turn down inappropriate links) should you want to.

All in all, I like the idea of making money off my blog. As long as I am in control. I will not be making enough to quit my job, but perhaps enough to go out for a nice dinner once in a while.
