OTA OK?

Today I got a wierd SMS message on my phone.  It came from '907' and said 'OTA OK'.  That was it.

I got it while at a board meeting, and when I got home did a little digging.  Turns out that message means the phone got some sort of update from the cell phone company regarding cellular towers or service or data. It means Over The Air - OK. No big deal.   Why show it as an SMS though?  Or at least use a phone number we could message back and say "huh"?  Is it only from t-mobile?

I found a web site where others were talking about it.  Aparenly a lot get the message, and it mostly comes at odd times of the day and night.  Sucks for those who get woken up at 3am with some mysterious text like that.

I can just imagine some cheating husband or wife being with someone else and getting that and thinking 'crap, is that some kind of message from my wife?  does she know?  is she saying its ok?' haha  "Hey honey, I got your sms last night. I am so glad your ok with me and Lisa fooling around."  "what do you mean you didn't sms me last night?"  doh!

I would link to the site, but I lost it and can't find it now.  I got all distracted with Network Solutions DNS servers being down.  grrr

EDIT: I just got a bunch of traffic from google.  People must have got a blast of these messages recently.  Post a comment with your provider.  So far I am seeing most if not all t-mobil.

I have received that twice, both following calls to T-Mobile Customer Service. The first time I had called to complain about bad coverage in a high traffic area (they actually added a tower three months later!). The next time was to request that international roaming privilages be turned on for my phone.

KPN, not prepay, The Netherlands. Two times this month, last time was today around 7.30PM (deleted the message already).

The strange thing for me was: both times I've recieved it I was in the same bar on the very same stool. Kinda spooky ;)

Hi,
I am in Canada and I have gotten a 1-992 number calling my house an average of 20 times a day. I believe it is similar to what you are all experiencing. The odd thing is is that they are calling a landline in my case.

Read on another site that it means "Over the Air OK" and comes up after the system has received an update. Apparently you are not charged airtime for this ....

I recieved my OTA OK message after I asked T-Mobile for tempoary roaming while I was on vacation in Mexico. Kinda freaked me out, thats how I found this website. Thanks for the help! Be aware that if you make any changes on your service you might get this message, but if you call you cell phone provider they can block text from the 907 sender so you won't get them anymore.

We have a BlackBerry 8100 user who has received several of these from T-mobile. Each time he gets one, his Inbox gets badly out of sync with our mail system. We're pursuing with T-mobile to see what they are doing....

I got it when I was working on a project called OTA (Operational Transconductance Amplifiers). I was dealing with it for a week. I was not very hopeful that it will work after measurements but message said OTA OK so I took T-Mobile's word and ended my project. I will sue them if my project does not work.

if you got a sms from 907 with "OTA OK", it is a free text message from t-mobile. It is just a over-the-air update to make sure that your sim card has all the necessary security updates.

KPN - not prepaid. The Netherlands. Got it a few times (maybe five times) already, maybe half a year ago. I was flabbergasted. :)

A few minutes I got another one. Good ol' OTA Ok.

T-mobile here as well, got about 5 of them just now.
My Contact list in the Dash went blank, I shut down my phone and had those messages when I opened Messaging after starting it up again. (Also my contacts all showed up again... I was worried I lost them).

does anyone know if this message counts towards your monthly total? like if I have 250 messages and my monthly package is 250, will I have to pay for the message as message 251? I know several people said it was free, but what if you're already over in messaging for the month? Maybe a dumn question, I'm newer to tmobile and cell phones in general.
